Life with Cantina Family

living life with #cantina family -Week 3

Sunday 18 August

Selflessly checking out our suppliers we headed down to Sharpham today, it’s a lovely walk along the river from Totnes. The cellar door café is just fabulous with wonderful food and of course wine. If you are a bit less hungry you can do cheese and wine tasters in the outside tasting areas, this is where you book your tour of the vineyard too. Today we’d had fabulous sausage sandwiches at Cantina before heading out so it was tasters for us. We especially loved the Sparkling Rose, it made us feel so glamorous.

Monday 19 August

What a very odd evening we had tonight. We roped the whole family in for another Hashing session. Even little Ivy (grandchild 4) came along strapped to the front of Jenny facing out to reduce incidences of FOMO (fear of missing out is a big problem in our family).

The hash started at New Bridge on Dartmoor and was stag and hen themed. (Two of the hashers are getting married). We dressed in wedding finery (top half only, trainers and shorts on the bottom), played Mr and Mrs in a dappled woodland glade, scattered rice confetti after observing a mock wedding at Spitchwick and then ran back to Newbridge for wedding speeches, cake and buffet in  the car park. A special and unique evening.

Tuesday 20 August

Trip to the cinema tonight to see Once upon a time in Hollywood. Jenny and Aaron loved it, Barry fell asleep and I thought the best part was when Brad Pitt took his top off on the roof, oh and how fine Brad looked in white jeans. Pre film at Olive drinks overlooking Paignton Harbour, lovely view and very nice G&T.

Wednesday 21 August

Today was a big family day.

Kate and Barry took Barry’s brother, sister in law and 3 nephews out on the boat today, a great day was had mooching around the bay, even Harry the dog came along.  Today’s lobster haul (3!!) was cooked up and dropped off to the Nelson-Smiths.

We had a late afternoon surprise visit from Kim and Keith (our middle sister and her husband), they had been dropping friends off to Lands End to start a charity bike ride and popped in on the way back. We had a couple of lovely bottles of Sharpham Sparking  – very very nice and shared a bowl of delicious Thai style seafood broth and crabby chips.

Charlie, Rob and the kids are on a Cornish adventure but we all keep in touch on whats-app so most mornings we wake up to a lovely photos. Rosie has taken a little bit of Cantina with her!!!

Thursday 22 August

Chilled out in the garden listening to Harbour tonight, we couldn’t decide which of the delicious specials to have so we had both, Whole plaice with olive oil mash and creamy peas with chorizo and Whole sea bream with garlic butter and chips…..we shared so we had the best of both worlds.

Friday 23 August

Today we had our first delivery from our new flower supplier, lovely hand tied posies, lovely seasonal locally grown flowers. We think they look very pretty.

Saturday 24 August

Jenny and I joined Charlie in Cornwall today for the Polkerris Swim Festival, it’s a lovely event on a pretty little beach. There are 3 races 1 km, 2 km and 3 km, we had all intended to do all three but Jenny’s and my shoddy attitude to booking meant that the 2 &3 km had sold our when we tried to book, oh well we get to sit on the beach and watch Charlie do her stuff. It’s a super event, very well organised and friendly with the most stunning medals. Ollie is keen to give it a go next year so the training starts now.

We joined the rest of the family for dinner afterwards melt in the mouth steak supper for 9 was the perfect way to end the day. We all slept like logs with full belly’s, happy hearts and achy shoulders.
